Based in Chichester, West Sussex, we are one
of over 700 clubs in the UK dedicated to providing a service to their local
communities.
We are part of
Lions Clubs International which was
founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1917 by insurance agent Melvin Jones and
others. Lions are members of community service clubs, dedicated to the idea
that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know
who needs help and why. More than 43,000 strong, these local clubs are part of
the world's largest such organization, with 1.4 million members serving in more
than 180 countries and areas. The association is both non-political and
non-sectarian.
For information about our spectacles recycling project click the page link at the top of this page. Chichester club has been one of the principal spectacles recycling centres in the UK for many years, and recent developments have increased the volume of spectacles coming through our workshop to over 1 million pairs annually.
In 1926, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become knights of the blind and the Lions Clubs International Campaign Sightfirst II is the latest global response to that challenge.
More than $200 million has been raised to continue the work of the first campaign to combat preventable blindness throughout the world. Chichester Lions are proud to be one of the leading clubs in the UK in support of that programme.
The pages on our web site will give you an insight into our activities and provides links with other sites in the Lions organisation and in Chichester.
