FUNDRAISING

In the 2009 financial year, in excess of £44,000 was raised by the club. All funds raised or donated by members of the public are used for charitable purposes.

A YEAR OF ACTIVITIES

December 2009

December was as always Carol float month, although we also had time for our own Christmas dinner at the Festival Theatre. Santa was out on his sleigh most nights in the month and once again many thanks to all Lions and friends who helped with that effort. Many thanks also to the generous donations we received, over £6000 in total..

November 2009

The last weekend in November we hosted an event at the Whyke guide hall to launch our carol float. This event was attended by the Mayor of Chichester. On Saturday our Santa float was in the town centre and with the backing of the Observer we had 400 Christmas presents for Santa to distribute. The town was very busy despite the poor weather forecast and in excess of £600 was donated for our welfare fund. On Sunday we had a stall at the Christmas market but the weather caught up with us and most people sensibly stayed in the warm!

A very busy weekend and thanks to all the members and friends who turned out for those events.

October 2009

October was a very busy month:

September 2009

In September, lions members travelled to Chartres, in France, for the illuminations. Through our connections with the twinning association we were welcomed by the deputy mayor of Chartres at a civic reception together with members of Lions from Chartres.

August 2009

Lions were in the centre of Chichester to assist with the Macmillan Nurses flag day.

July 2009

We took our market stall to three events in July, the Oaklands Park fun day, Tangmere fete and the Worthing seafront show. Unfortunately the weather was more appropriate for ducks than Lions, nevertheless we added over £500 to our welfare funds.

Lions members were also out to help McMillan Nurses with their flag day.

June 2009

We took our stall to the Adur East Donkey Derby and raised £276 from the sale of sunglasses and our pick-a-stick game.

May 2009

We held our first Swimathon at the Westgate Centre. The fundraising results will have to wait until we get the sponsorship moneys in but the evening went very well and we were very impressed by the determination shown by all the swimmers to perform to their best. Many thanks to all those who took part, especially all the lads from Chichester High School and the cadets, the group from Sailability who wanted to go on to do a second session and the girls from Central School sporting union jack towels.

For our part we thoroughly enjoyed it and will be organising another next year.

April 2009

Our secretary, Richard Hall, was chauffeur to the junior mayor and his entourage as they fulfilled their programme of duties round Chichester accompanied by Mayor David Siggs.

Our Easter Egg raffle was a huge success and raised £1250 which will be donated to the Friends of Chichester Hospitals. Many thanks to the pubs and other locations that hosted our eggs for the raffles, and to their patrons for their support.

Lions club members collected on behalf of Save the Children fund in Chichester to help them with their flag day.

March 2009

Lions were back on the street collecting on St Davids day on behalf of Marie Curie. This collection is an important fundraising day for this vital Cancer care charity and Lions clubs across the country assist with the street collections. Our collection was £1,006, a record for us. Many thanks to all those who collected and those who donated.
