Budding Journalist Competition    

Chichester Lions Club is sponsoring a competition with the assistance of The News Portsmouth and the Chichester Observer to find budding journalists in Hampshire and West Sussex.

We are inviting you to write an article suitable for publication in a local newspaper on the theme of 'Saving Sight'.

The article should comprise of approximately 300 words, together with an appropriate headline and may include a photograph.

The competition will be judged in 4 categories:

Anyone in full time employment will not be eligible to enter the competition.

The winner and runner-up in each category will be invited to spend a day at The News offices in Portsmouth where they will have the facilities and supervison of the education department to enhance and format their work to professional publication standard. They will also enjoy a guided tour of the newspaper production process and the editorial offices.

The winner and runner-up in each category will also receive an engraved trophy which will be presented by the Mayor of Chichester at the Council offices in Chichester.

Finally, each entrant will be asked to nominate a sight related charity and Chichester Lions Club will award a £400 bursary to the charity nominated by the winner in each category and a £200 bursary to the charity nominated by the runner-up in each category. The charity nominated should be independent of Lions Clubs.

There is no cost to enter this competition. All you need to do is to download the application form by clicking on the link at the top of this page. You can also download a copy of the competition rules. The completed application form should be sent by email to the email address on the form together with your article and your charity nomination. Please do not send entries by post.
